During this morning’s coffee run, we ran into a client who thanked us for introducing him to content marketing. That’s a good way to start the day when your company provides content marketing services. He said he wrote his first blog post the night before and that crazy things were happening as he began to write.
“It was awesome. I realized that I could have been doing this since last summer and could have a whole slew of information already out there if I hadn’t been so afraid of ‘marketing.’”
He first came to us about eight months ago for ideas on how to grow his counseling practice. Considering the sensitive nature of his business, he was very leery about “marketing” to people and wanted to make sure he came across authentic, not “salesy.”
We showed him that content marketing is all about being authentic. It’s different from the marketing or advertising world depicted in Mad Men or even the pushy sales angle still used in many by many of today’s businesses (need we say, car dealerships).
Using content marketing services, we helped him capture his specific voice and tone to let his personality shine through on his website. At the same time, we made sure the right keywords were included for search engines to meet the ‘marketing’ goals of growing his business.
Once he realized that he didn’t have to sacrifice authenticity, and that authenticity is actually encouraged in content marketing, he agreed to start working on a blog.
Now that the first blog post is ready to go, the growth of his practice is eminent. We’ll be helping him with an editorial calendar soon to make sure those posts keep coming. In the meantime, cheers to content marketing for letting all business owners increase profits while staying true to their authentic selves.
